India

The USDA has forecast that India will have a total of 332.950 million bovine animals by the end of 2004. In 1997 there were reportedly 206 million beef cattle and 90.5 million buffalo. Since then buffalo numbers have grown more rapidly than cattle numbers but cattle numbers are still forecast at over 200 million. Brazil has the second largest herd.
